Ocqueoc Falls State Forest Campground is located off of M-68 near the town of Rogers City. While it’s a relatively small campground (there are only 15 sites available for use), there’s no shortage of fun to be had at Ocqueoc Falls.

Once you’ve arrived and set up your tent or trailer, lace up your hiking boots and check out the campground’s six miles of trails, which are separated into three distinct loops. On foot or on bike, you won’t be disappointed by the scenic forest.

After a leisurely hike, cool off with a stop at the campground’s main attraction: Ocqueoc Falls! Named for a Native American word which many believe means "crooked river," Ocqueoc is the only major waterfall in the Lower Peninsula, and, thanks to recent updates to the park, the only universally accessible waterfall in the United States. Visitors of all physical abilities can now access the falls.

The falls are undoubtedly gorgeous, and make an ideal spot for a summertime swim. There’s nothing quite as refreshing as immersing yourself in a natural pool of fresh Michigan water.

If you visit the falls during spawning season, you might even catch a glimpse of salmon swimming through distinct channels in the limestone. Above the falls, the remaining bits of an old mill race are visible.

After your dip in the falls, head back to your campsite for an evening of relaxation and appreciation for Michigan’s breathtaking great outdoors. Roast a few marshmallows, play a hand of euchre, and rest up for another day of leisure at the gorgeous and unique Ocqueoc Falls. There is a small fee to reserve your spot, and campsites are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reserve your spot through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
