Tunnel Of Trees In Michigan

August 20, 2021

What are the best scenic drives in Michigan?

Michigan is the kind of state that someone who really loves driving just plain belongs in. In fact, Michigan is home to 120 National Scenic Byways and 31 All-American Roads. They’re all amazing, to be honest, but there are some that seem to stick out above the rest. For example, Woodward Avenue is an incredibly scenic drive from Detroit to Pontiac. There is also River Road, which is an incredible 22-mile stretch of byway extending from Lake Huron to the Huron-Manistee National Forests. And, of course, you can’t go wrong with the Michigan Scenic Byway! For more of our favorite scenic roads, check this article out!

Where is the Michigan tunnel of trees?

The tunnel of trees might just be one of Michigan’s most iconic treasures. It’s not every day you see trees protecting the roadway in such a way that they take on the appearance of a tunnel, but they do here! You’ll find the tunnel on M-119, which begins at the northern end of Petoskey. If you follow it to just north of Harbor Springs, you’ll find it. The tunnel is comprised of evergreens and hardwoods that extend over the pavement. It’s a unique little place with a very special magic about it, and you’ve certainly got to see it to believe it!

What kind of Michigan road trips could I plan?

Your imagination is the limit! If you’re a fan of ice cream, for example, you could put together a list of the top ice cream shops in the Mitten and stop at each one. If you’re more of an architecture fan, maybe a road trip to covered bridges of Michigan is in order, or maybe you’d prefer the eeriness of a Michigan ghost town road trip. You could make a list of Michigan’s most amazing waterfalls and visit each one over the course of a weekend. Or, if you’re a fan of lighthouses, you can scope those out and see them, too.
