Drink At The Historic Spot In Michigan That Has Been A Local Favorite Since 1876
We have some awesome bars in the Great Lake State from local hangouts to swanky cocktail lounges. But in the Midwest, there’s nothing better than grabbing a drink at an old dive bar. Look no further than this local favorite that happens to be the oldest bar in Detroit, Michigan.
The Two Way Inn is located in Detroit and is a bar that is full of fascinating history.
Follow the soft glow of the sign to this popular dive bar that opened in 1876. Back in the day, the building held a saloon, doctor’s office, dentist's office, brothel, inn, and dance hall.
But scorch marks are nothing compared to the jail, or holdover cell, in the basement. The dark cell with a low ceiling has seen a lot. If only those walls could talk!
In the late 1800s, prisoners were transported by horse and buggy and it could take weeks or months to complete. Along the route, there would be drop-off stations like this one, which would make it easier for the sheriff to hold prisoners.
Prisoners weren’t the only thing transported by horse and buggy. So was the beer, which is essential to running a bar no matter what century you’re in.
Come down to the Two Way Inn for a pint with your friends or to meet the eccentric locals. Drinks are served daily and food is offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
There are pinball machines and a pool table to keep you entertained, or you can ask the attentive staff about the history of the place. The Two Way Inn has a long and rich past, so head over to Detroit to experience it yourself.
