This Just Might Be The Most Beautiful Hike In All Of Michigan
The Porcupine Mountains in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula easily maintain their status as one of our state’s most gorgeous hidden gems. Whether you visit for a weekend of camping, an afternoon of trekking through the trees, or a quick photo opportunity, you’re sure to be stunned by the natural beauty of the Porkies. But there’s one hiking trail in the area that offers incredible views among scenery that simply can’t be found anywhere else.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. Located near Carp Lake Township in the Upper Peninsula, the Porcupine Mountains are home to the Escarpment Trail, which draws hundreds of hikers each year.
The trail is relatively short: it stretches just eight miles, making it a perfect “out and back” hike for those who can’t commit to a longer hiking trip.
The Escarpment Trail covers a variety of terrain, from loose rocks to well-packed dirt. Be sure to lace up your hiking boots before tackling this walk.
But the walk is well worth the effort. Throughout your trek, you’ll be treated to otherworldly views and rocky overlooks that will make you feel like you’re on top of the world.
At a few points throughout the hike, you’ll be treated to a glimpse of Lake Superior in the distance. Snap a few photos before heading back to the trailhead.
