The Wetland Garden Trail near Detroit, for example, is drenched in natural beauty, from local wildlife to lush green lilypads. In fact, it might just become your new favorite hiking trail.
Roll down the windows, on one of those lovely Michigan days, as you make the leisurely drive from downtown Detroit to Crosswinds Marsh Preserve in New Boston, about a 40-minute trek.
You have several gorgeous trails from which to choose, including the short and sweet .04-mile Wetland Garden Trail. It's the perfect trail for hikers of all ages and skill levels and if you're short on time.
Part of the trail meanders along a boardwalk, where you'll have sensational views of the water, brimming with lush greenery. It's a hidden oasis that's well worth discovering.
Crosswinds Marsh, in fact, is home to an assortment of mammals (around 40 species) and birds (an estimated 240 species). Keep an eye out for beavers, too.
With its easy rating (and it doesn't get overly busy), the Wetland Garden Trail also welcomes dogs, as long as they remain on a leash. (Don't forget to pick up after your pup, too.)
