Summertime brings about scorching temperatures in and around Detroit, leading many locals to seek out refreshing places to unwind. While most of us aren’t lucky enough to have access to private pools or convenient tropical getaways, Metro Detroit still offers an ample array of swimming spots. When you’re looking for a wonderful way to cool off this season, check out these underrated locales.

Additionally, the water park sits just a stone’s throw from Independence Lake itself, so you can drop in for your dose of nature after an hour or two of splashing.
5. Wayne County Family Aquatic Center (12600 Chandler Park Dr, Detroit)

Despite its many offerings, some Detroiters are still not familiar with Wayne County Family Aquatic Center and its fantastic array of water-centric activities. With a 325,000-gallon wave pool, two 23-foot slides, and wading areas for less adventurous guests, this spot is truly dreamy in the summertime. In addition, the center offers swimming lessons and other family events to encourage water safety.
