The Motor City is famous for many things, but we Detroiters might just love our hometown’s mouthwatering food options above all else. There’s nothing better than coming back for a visit to Detroit and indulging in some of your favorite meals. If you hail from the Motor City, here are ten dishes (and a few beverages) that will always remind you of home.
Whether your favorite dog comes from Lafayette or American, there’s no doubt that every Detroiter loves a delicious coney dog. This classic dish has long stood as a symbol of our city, and we could probably eat ten in one sitting if we really tried!
Nothing washes down a meal in the Motor City quite like a glass of crisp Faygo, so we had to include in on this list. No, it’s not technically a "dish," but this beloved pop has taken on a life of its own here in Detroit. From Redpop to Rock ‘N Rye, there’s a flavor for every craving.
Square pizza simply tastes better. Those crispy corners, that delicious cheese, and that hearty sauce -- what’s not to love? From Buddy’s to Detroit Style Pizza Company, there’s a pizzeria in the Motor City to satisfy diners of all ages when the craving strikes.
If you’re from Detroit, we’re sure you’ve had your fair share of sliders throughout the years. These tiny sandwiches and burgers, typically served up at the iconic Green Dot Stables, are one of the most fun dishes imaginable. After all, you can choose from countless varieties at once!

This is a more recent addition, but Slows Bar-BQ has quickly become an icon in the Motor City. For younger Detroiters, the Yardbird sandwich and its many accompanying menu items are classic tastes of our beloved hometown. If you’re a dedicated carnivore, you’ll adore Slows.
