1. Vineyards Chocolate (3251 Friday Rd, Coloma)
This delightful shop is family-owned and operated, so you can rest assured that each item is produced with careful attention to detail. Many of its tasty sweets are produced directly on-site, including all sorts of truffles, chocolate-covered fruits, and barks. Vineyard Chocolates even offers chocolate bacon, which is just as fantastically unique as it sounds. What’s not to love?
2. Sweet Retreats Chocolate Shoppe (314 N Main St, Milford)
You’re sure to love a visit to Sweet Retreats, which offers friendly service and some of the state’s most deliciously sugary selections. There’s a timeless charm to this shop, which overflows with all sorts of chocolatey goodness - including gift packages, insanely delightful truffles, holiday-specific eats, and more. This is one locale that’s sure to steal your heart.
3. Birmingham Chocolate (1728 W Maple Rd, Birmingham)
You’ll be in heaven upon stepping inside this charming shop, which features a wide array of hand-crafted sweet treats. Each batch is carefully made with attention to detail and some of the most mind-bogglingly delicious flavors you’ve ever experienced. As its name suggests, Chocolates Galore is home to an impressive array of sugary delights. 5. Village Chocolatier (104 Newman St, East Tawas)
Venture to the lovely town of East Tawas for a few sugary delights from this wonderful spot, which first opened its doors in 1983. Since then, visitors and locals alike have enjoyed all sorts of chocolatey options, from dipped fruits to tasty toffee to smooth truffles. As soon as you set foot inside, you’ll be happily overwhelmed by the sights and smells of this shop.
6. Alpine Chocolat Haus (208 W Main St, Gaylord)
With multiple locations throughout Michigan, Alpine Chocolat Haus is a true gem. For the purposes of our road trip, we’re featuring the shop’s Gaylord locale - and you’re sure to fall in love with this spot as soon as you arrive. Chocolate-covered potato chips, rich fudge, chocolate apples, and specialty truffles are just some of the items you’ll find here. Kids and adults will be utterly amazed.
7. Drost’s Chocolates (3676 S Straits Hwy, Indian River)
Stop in at this Northern Michigan gem for some of the most wonderful chocolates imaginable. Decades of Michiganders have indulged in tasty treats from Drost’s, which creates rich and flavorful pieces by hand. In addition to truffles and standard chocolate eats, this old-fashioned spot also offers fudge and ice cream. It doesn’t get much more timeless than this.
8. Grocer’s Daughter (11590 S Lacore St, Empire)
Stop in for a sweet treat or two at this lovely locale, which prides itself on providing some of the freshest and most mouthwatering chocolate confections imaginable. Situated in the gorgeous lakeside town of Empire, Grocer’s Daughter is home to everything from honey caramels to perfectly sweet hot cocoa mix. Visitors can even enjoy chocolate tastings and specialty truffle-making classes.
9. Mokaya (638 Wealthy St SE, Grand Rapids)
It’s impossible not to love this Grand Rapids gem, which offers some of the most gorgeously designed and decorated chocolate treats you’ve ever seen. Since its founding in 2016, Mokaya has quickly become a favorite throughout the area - and the items you’ll find here are nothing short of amazing. From whoopee pies to thick brownies to chocolate-dipped cookies, the selection feels endless.
