9 Reasons Why Michiganders Make The Best Friends
We hate to brag, but we Michiganders are a pretty special group of people. With adventurous spirits and plenty of unique traits, we like to think that we make pretty solid pals. If you need proof that befriending a Michigander is a great idea, look no further than our list of nine undeniable reasons.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now:
1. We’re loyal.
I mean, if we can remain loyal to the Detroit Lions despite years of repeated disappointments, we can certainly remain loyal to our friends! When you befriend a Michigander, you can rest assured that we’ll stick with you through thick and thin. Is there any better quality in a friend?
2. We know how to be adventurous.
One thing is for sure: you’ll never be bored when you’re hanging out with someone from Michigan. Whether we’re skiing, hitting the beach, hiking, or even just venturing to Meijer for some late-night shopping, we’re always ready to head out for some fun. We’d love to bring you along!
3. We don’t mind laughing at ourselves.
We’ll admit it: Michigan is a little weird at times. From our nasally accents to our inability to hold back tears when we hear a Pure Michigan ad, there are plenty of silly qualities that come along with life in the Great Lakes State. But we never take ourselves too seriously, and that’s what makes us such great friends.
4. We’ll take you to beautiful places.
When you befriend a Michigander, you’ll have a firsthand guide for some of the most gorgeous locales in the world. We’ll show you Pictured Rocks, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Kitch-iti-kipi, and countless waterfront destinations. No matter what you’re interested in, we’re sure you’ll find something to love in Michigan.
5. We’re always there when you’re sick.
When our friends aren’t feeling well, we’re always there with a glass of Vernors in hand! Sure, we could offer to bring you chicken soup or Pepto Bismol, but we Michiganders are in on a little secret: Vernors is the key to healing any stomach ailment. Stick with us and we’ll always show up with the perfect remedy.
6. We’ll drive when you don’t feel like it.
Michigan is notorious for its potholes and icy roads, so we’re not afraid to take the wheel when you aren’t in the mood to deal with driving. After all, with plentiful Michigan lefts, a few crazy drivers, and all sorts of construction throughout the state, we’ve pretty much seen it all. Yet another benefit to befriending us!
7. Weather won’t stop us from hanging out.
We Michiganders have never been held back by a measly little blizzard. Snow days are a rarity for most of us, so we’re certainly accustomed to venturing out in the ice and snow. You’ll never have to worry about us canceling plans at the last minute due to inclement weather. We thrive in the wintertime!
8. We’ll introduce you to great food.
If you’ve never had a pasty, your new Michigan friends will certainly make sure to change that. Whether we’re feeding you coney dogs from Detroit, Mackinac Island fudge, Traverse City cherries, or delicious fresh-picked apples from across the state, there are all sorts of iconic Michigan tastes to experience. We Michiganders love to eat, and nothing says friendship like sharing a meal or two!
9. You’ll always have an excuse to visit Michigan.
Let’s be honest: Michigan is a pretty fantastic place to visit. When you befriend someone from the Great Lakes State, you’ll always have a built-in reason to plan your next trip, no matter where you reside. After all, we Michiganders are fiercely proud of where we’re from — and we can’t wait to share it with our pals.
