The Massachusetts Sky Will Light Up With Shooting Stars And A Nearly Full Moon This Week
Feel like catching a show this week? All you’ll have to do is look up. The skies above Massachusetts are about to fill with shooting stars and a huge, glowing moon. Here’s what you need to know to watch.
The Perseid meteor shower is set to dazzle the state of Massachusetts this week.
However, the show isn’t confined to the first half of the week. You’ll be able to spot meteors in the night sky all this week and even into next week. According to NASA, comets will be whizzing by until August 24.
The glow of the moon will steal some of the sparkle from the meteors, but experts say the show will still be worth watching. It’s worth trying to get as far away from urban lights as possible.
Keep your eye out for the Swift-Tuttle comet, which is about 16-miles in diameter and will be one of the brightest to grace the skies. It’s actually bigger than the comet that wiped out the dinosaurs, but don’t worry – there’s no danger of it bumping into us.
Try to catch the show on Monday evening, but keep your eyes peeled for shooting stars throughout this week and next. It’s shaping up to be one of the best free shows of the year!
