A new use for an old building is making a few Salem residents uneasy.

Today, the international headquarters of the Satanic Temple will open to the public in its new location. This charming Victorian home was once a funeral parlor, but most recently served as the Salem Art Gallery.

The issue for some residents lies in the temple’s location, just around the block from an elementary school. The Satanic Temple is recognized as an official religious and political organization and has stated it has no interest in door-to-door outreach.

According to the website for the Satanic Temple, the new headquarters will host exhibits of art and witch-hunt history.

On the choice of moving to Salem, spokesperson for the organization, Lucien Greaves said, “The irony that a town which one executed people because of alleged ties to Satan will now be hosting the headquarters of the world’s largest satanic organization is not lost on us. The fact that we have a home in Salem is a testament to the progressive mentality of the people there, and the local government’s support for plurality.”
