The Berkshire town of Egremont is one you may have never heard of. With a population that hovers around 1,200 residents, it’s the very definition of a small town. Another thing you may not know is that it’s made great strides to preserve many of its historical buildings, And if you enjoy learning about history, a visit to this small historical town in Massachusetts is a must.

Part of the greater Pittsfield area in Berkshire County, Egremont is a small Massachusetts town that has quite a rural feel. It's quite an escape from the hustle and bustle of any city.

Egremont was established in 1760. Given its longevity, it's no wonder why you can find numerous historical buildings here.

While this town is tiny, it has made huge strides in preserving its history and architecture over the years. In fact, beginning in the 1930s, the Olde Egremont Association was established in order to purchase and restore historical structures in town.

Restoring the historical buildings at the time was meant to attract tourists who were looking to see an authentic slice of New England to the town.
In 1974, the Egremont Historical Commission was established in order to preserve the town's history including documents, art, books, and more.

Because of its great efforts to preserve the town's history, the North Egremont Historic District and Westover Bacon Potts Farm are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
