All data is from the 2009-2013 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates. The U.S. Census Bureau determines poverty status based on income, household size and other factors.
Per capita income: $19,796.
Average Household income: $53,191.
Living below poverty level: 48% (This statistic is based on census results from North Amherst. Amherst Center has a poverty rate of 34.1%).
Per capita income: $16,987.
Median Household income: $32,851.
Living below poverty level: 29.2%.
Lawrence is actually one of the poorest cities in the entire United States.
