Doesn’t a peaceful visit to one of Massachusetts’ many beautiful islands sound like a perfect way to spend a fun and relaxing day? Unfortunately, many of us don’t own boats and can not access these gorgeous spots on our own. Luckily for you, we have discovered a small island that you can actually walk to! You will just need to do a bit of planning to make sure you time your visit right.
Crowninshield Island is located just off the coast of Marblehead Harbor in the small North Shore town of Marblehead.
The island is made up of five miles of woodlands, a beach, and an open field. Originally named Brown’s Island, it now honors Louise DuPont Crowninshield, a historic preservationist who spent summers in the area. The property is currently managed and maintained by the Trustees of Reservations.
The island is only accessible by foot during low tide. With all of the natural beauty that surrounds you on the island, it is easy to lose track of how long you have been exploring. Be sure to keep an eye on the time so that you don't get stuck on the island when the tides rise.
I suggest that you arrive an hour before low tide and depart an hour afterward.

The trail around the island is about a 30-minute walk. Spend time exploring the tide pools, relaxing on the beach, and taking in the beautiful views of Marblehead Harbor.
