If you're not familiar with Willaim Cullen Bryant (1794-1878), he worked as an editor and publisher of the New York Evening Post. He was also a celebrated poet who wrote verses about nature.
Bryant lived in this Cummington, Massachusetts homestead between 1865 and 1878. While the Victorian-style house he lived in is not currently open for tours, visitors can explore the trails and grounds of the 195-acre estate.
Overseen by The Trustees of Reservations, a non-profit with a mission for land conservation and historical preservation, the William Cullen Bryant Homestead is a wonderful hidden gem.
Aside from viewing the historical house and barn on the property, you can take a hike through an old-growth forest filled with hemlock. It's quite magical to say the least.
When you visit this underrated preserve, you'll find yourself in awe of the woodlands, fields, pastures, stream, house, and barn. One visit to the William Cullen Bryant Homestead and it will quickly become your new favorite place to explore.
