The Hidden Castle In Massachusetts That Almost No One Knows About
When it comes to castles, Massachusetts is surprisingly well-endowed. However, there’s one stunning spot that doesn’t get nearly as much recognition as it deserves. Boasting beautiful grounds, a great location and of course, plenty of majestic style, here’s one castle you may not have heard about.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

Winnekenni Castle is a gorgeous hidden gem that too few people know about.
Located in Haverhill, the beautiful stone structure was built between 1873 and 1875 as a summer home for local chemist Dr. James R. Nichols. Its name comes from the Algonquin word for "very beautiful."

The castle is nestled in the 700-acre Winnekenni Park Conservation Area that overlooks lovely Kenoza Lake. Its design was inspired by stone buildings Dr. Nichols saw while visiting England.
Though its elaborate Victorian interior was destroyed by a fire in 1967, it is now open to the public for scheduled tours and public events. It’s also the perfect place for your own special event or wedding.
