The town of Newburyport is packed with things to do and charming places to wander. The brick buildings and beautiful harbor provide a lovely backdrop for shopping in the town’s many boutiques and strolling along the water. Stop by Oldie’s Marketplace for a spot of antique-hunting.
2. The Crane Estate, Ipswich
The Crane Estate looks like something out of The Great Gatsby. Its grandiose mansion and sweeping lawn are a true pleasure to explore, and the nearby Crane Beach will let you soak up some sun or have the perfect seaside picnic.
3. Woodman's of Essex, Essex
Locals and visitors alike love this historic seafood joint. First opened in 1914, Woodman’s of Essex specializes in no-frills counter service and massive portions. The fried clams here are unbelievable and served in giant mountains of deliciousness.
Rockport is a sleepy fishing village with buckets of charm. This coastal town is filled with quaint shops, postcard-worthy views, and plenty of authentic New England beauty. It’s the perfect place to stop to stretch your legs or grab a few nautical knick-knacks as souvenirs.
5. Singing Beach, Manchester-by-the-Sea
Singing Beach is unlike any other seaside spot in the state. The sand here actually emits a song-like sound when the wind blows just right. If you don’t want to wait around for the weather to cooperate, you can also produce a peculiar squeaking sound by rubbing your feet in the sand. This place is beautiful in any season.
6. The Barnacle Restaurant, Marblehead
This great little restaurant is perched right over the water. They specialize in delicious, fresh seafood, and killer Bloody Marys. It’s the perfect spot to stop for dinner and watch the water turn golden with the sunset’s light.
