Chatham is a stunning coastal town situated right on the "elbow" of Cape Cod.
It’s a paradise of sand, surf, and quaint New England streets lined with historic homes and blooming hydrangea bushes.
While parts of the town can get pretty lively during the warm season, other areas remain secluded and peaceful even at the height of summer.
Chatham is known for its summertime population of seals. You can frequently find these gorgeous creature sunning themselves on the beach.

Of course, all those seals attract another unique visitor: the great white shark. Chatham has actually embraced its reputation as the shark capital of Massachusetts with plenty of shark decor and trinkets for sale in local shops. Don’t worry – attacks are extremely rare.
One of the great things about this town is just how many small businesses are still around. Chatham is filled with little shops and restaurants that have been going for generations.

For a dose of history, pop over to Chatham Lighthouse and check out this beautiful 19th-century landmark.
And bring your towel – the lighthouse is literally right across the street from the breathtaking Lighthouse Beach.
Whale watches are also a popular diversion in Chatham. Many tours will actually let you set sail as many times as needed for you to catch a glimpse of these majestic creatures.
If you want to stay for the weekend, you could do much worse than checking into the luxurious Chatham Bars Inn right on the water.
Of course, just spending an afternoon in Chatham will be enough to convince you that this little town is definitely one of the most charming in the state.
