Exploring the hiking trails in Massachusetts can lead to some spectacular scenery. Whether it’s a coastal hike with water views or a hike in the Berkshires that leads to panoramic mountain vistas, the Bay State offers plenty of diverse landscapes. If you enjoy hiking, not just for the exercise but for the scenery as well, take a day and explore all that Breakheart Reservation has to offer.
The 652-acre Breakheart Reservation spans two towns: Saugus and Wakefield. Within the reservation are two freshwater lakes, stunning hardwood forests, overlooks, and numerous hiking trails to explore.
The Saugus River also winds its way through the reservation, making it an even more enchanting place to spend the day exploring and connecting with nature.
Several interconnecting trails lead hikers through the hardwood forests, to the lakes, and by the river. Both scenic and peaceful, Breakheart Reservation is the ideal nature escape.
The Pearce Lake and Upper Pond Trail will take you to the largest lake in the park. In the summer, Pearce Lake becomes a popular swimming hole complete with a beach and picnic tables. What a wonderful way to spend a summer day.
In addition to hiking, Breakheart Reservation's trails can be explored by horseback, bike, and even cross-country skiing. It's a wonderful place to spend some time year-round.
