Boston is a bustling, vibrant city that’s full of historic charm and modern amenities, but sometimes it’s nice to get out of the city and visit a quiet, small town. Nahant is just 13 miles north of the city, near the town of Lynn.

Nahant is a small community of just 3,400 or so people.

It's technically considered a tied island - an island connected to the mainland by a narrow spit, but the locals call it an island. Nahant is connected to the town of Lynn by a causeway.

There's a rich history here, going back to the 1600s, but most of the development of the area occurred in the 1800s.
The Nahant Life-Saving Station is a landmark here.

It was built in 1900 by the U.S. Coast Guard, after the schooner Charles Briggs wrecked, killing eight people in 1898. The Coast Guard closed its operations here in 2000 and deeded the station to the town of Nahant. After an extensive renovation, it's now on the National Register of Historic Places.
This little town is mainly residential, and it's quiet and quaint.

Nahant Beach is a protected area that covers 67 acres.

It's the perfect place to spend a warm, summer day. Dip your toes in the water, build a sand castle, or stroll along the beach. You'll also find people enjoying kite flying, swimming, kayaking, and biking. You'll pay to park at this beach; it's $10 for MA residents and $20 for non-residents.
