If you live in Boston, you already know that this is a
great city. But is it a good place to raise a family? Whether you spent your childhood here or have been a parent here, you’ll probably be able to relate to these 10 reasons why Boston is actually the best place to grow up:
1. We have great schools.
Boston has long been associated with prestigious universities, but quality education starts much earlier than that. On a recent Niche.com list of best school districts, those in Boston’s suburbs dominated the top 50 spots.
Boston Latin School, the first school in the whole country, is located in our city. To this day, it remains the top school in Massachusetts (according to U.S. News) and in the top 50 schools in the country.
2. We're surrounded by history.
History isn’t relegated to the past in Boston; it’s literally brought to life during regular reenactments. Even kids who aren’t that into history get a kick out of watching a reenactment of the ultimate act of rebellion: the Boston Tea Party.
3. There are parks everywhere.
Green spaces big and small abound in Boston, so there is no shortage of fun places to play.
4. We can spend summer at the beach without going out of town.
There are several beaches in Boston itself, and many more stretches of soft sand within easy day tripping distance.
5. Our museums are actually interesting!
Kids can see dinosaur fossils, a butterfly garden, models of space capsules, and enjoy plenty of opportunities for hands-on learning... and that's just at the Museum of Science!
6. Boston is culturally diverse.
One in four Bostonians are born abroad, so our city is a melting pot of cultures. Living in Boston exposes children to different traditions, celebrations, and foods.
7. Speaking of food... Boston is a destination for foodies young, old, and everywhere in between.
Many kids have a sweet tooth, so they're psyched to grow up near a chocolate factory (Taza), Italian bakeries, old school candy stores, and more. Parents can load up on healthier items at Haymarket or Boston Public Market.
8. Boston puts on epic fireworks displays.
From the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular on July 4th to the dazzling First Night Display, our celebrations will give you reason to ooh and aah!
9. Boston kids are tough.
Kids here don't let a little snow hold them back.
10. Boston has a strong sense of community.
Since this is a city of neighborhoods, it's easier to forge connections and friendships than it is in other major cities.
