7 Easy And Beautiful Spring Hikes Everyone In Massachusetts Will Love
Spring is the perfect time to get out outside and experience the beauty of Massachusetts. With so much natural splendor to take in, it’s not always easy picking a hike. Luckily, we’ve pulled together a few of the best hikes in Massachusetts to take while the weather is warming up and the intense heat of summer is still on the horizon.
This one-mile hike within the Cape Cod National Seashore in Eastham is perfect for late spring or early summer, as it will take you straight to the water and allow you to experience plenty of sunshine. The lack of shade may be a bother during the hotter months, but hikers visiting in May or June should be quite comfortable. This hike is kid-friendly, so bring the little ones!
The World’s End Trail in the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area is perfect for any time of year, but its coastal setting makes this hike a must for springtime wandering. The 3.8-mile loop trail follows manicured paths through grassy meadows, forest, and along the water.
Hiking through Bristol Blake State Reservation in Norfolk will take you over a woodland boardwalk and through scenic forest, ponds, marshes, and fields. This hike is perfect for families with strollers or casual hikers, as there is no rough terrain and the path is mostly level. Note that the path itself is not wheelchair-friendly, as the boardwalk doesn’t extend for the entire length of the hike. However it is one of the best kid-friendly hikes in Massachusetts.
Walden Pond was made famous by Henry David Thoreau, but locals know it as a great place to hike and swim. Walden Pond Path is a 1.7-mile loop trail that will take you around the legendary kettle pond and even let you peek into a replica of Thoreau’s cabin. Out-of-state visitors may need to pay a parking fee.
Located in the Walnut Hill Wildlife Management Area, the Keystone Arch Bridges Trail is about five miles long, out and back. That may seem like a trek, but the trail doesn’t gain much elevation and offers a gorgeous river and waterfall for very minimal effort. Keep an eye out for the pretty stone bridges for which the trail is named.

Don’t let the name of this two-mile trail near Monson fool you - it only gains about 500 feet in elevation and is easy enough for even total newbies to handle. The pleasant loop trail affords panoramic views and plenty of fresh air.
Danforth Falls Trail is a 1.2-mile loop trail that will whisk you away through the woods and to the lovely Danforth Falls. It’s a quick and easy excursion that may require some waterproof boots (if you intend to approach the falls) but should be easy enough for hikers of all ages and ability levels. Pop by after a rainy day to see the falls in their full glory.
