Travel along Interstate 68 and you'll eventually spot Sideling Hill from afar. As you get closer, it appears that a chunk is cut out of the mountain, and that's basically correct.

This man-made cut is one of the most impressive rock cuts in the United States. The intricate layers and folds of syncline strata is worth seeing in person.

Water trickles through the rock cut year-round and in winter, it freezes.

This natural wonder looks like a frozen waterfall.

While you can't walk right up to the ice, you can stop at the visitors center and get a closer view from the bridge. Be sure to bring a camera.

When spring arrives, the trickling water unfreezes and gently flows once more. This annual phenomenon is just another thing that makes Maryland so unique.
