The Oldest Covered Bridge In Maryland Has Been Around Since 1843
Maryland has a handful of covered bridges left and you may have even seen some in person. Although all of them are full of history, the following covered bridge is the oldest, said to date all the way back to 1843. Utica Mills Covered Bridge is one of three covered bridges in Frederick County. This one is in Thurmont, to be exact.
It was originally built over Monocacy River but was washed away due to flooding in 1889. It was then rebuilt at its current location, over Fishing Creek.
Although Utica Mills Covered Bridge has been restored, it still retains timber from 1843. Impressive!

Come marvel at its construction, inside and out. Be aware that Utica Road is an active road, so don't go walking inside until there is no traffic coming from either direction. It does make for a great photo op!
