When you think of ghost towns, your mind may wander to dusty areas in the wild west full of tumbleweeds. However, Maryland has a town that’s abandoned but eerily beautiful, especially during autumn. Read on to discover the town of Daniels and consider exploring it while fall foliage is at its peak.

Patapsco Valley State Park has several areas worth exploring but the Daniels section just may be the most fascinating.

This area is hidden north of Old Ellicott City and was once the home of over 90 families.

Because of the textile mill on-site, the residents had plenty of work. They built houses, churches, and more.

But in 1968, the mill closed and the families were informed that they needed to move. The town of Daniels now sits quietly abandoned in the woods.

You can hike along this spot where the ruins remain. Keep your eyes peeled for crumbling structures and old cars that are slowly being overtaken by nature.
