Maryland is home to many outdoor marvels ripe for exploration, from the wooded valley of Patapsco State Park to the idyllic Severn River that winds its way down into the Chesapeake Bay. And while Maryland may seem quite large given the vast variety of natural beauty the state is home to, there’s actually a gorgeous bike trail that links the cities of Baltimore and Annapolis that is both wonderfully accessible and bursting with gorgeous scenery. The trail itself is just over 13 miles, which can seem daunting at first, but it’s such a smooth ride that it actually makes for a perfectly doable day trip!

You’ll start off at BWI Airport, just on the outskirts of Baltimore, where you’ll be able to watch the planes take off and land as you begin your journey - or end it, if you plan to make a round trip!

This scenic trail cuts through woods, across railroads, and has several bridges that pass over highways.

At about the halfway mark, you’ll find the Earleigh Heights Ranger Station. It was built in 1899 and has been several things - a general store, a post office, and a train station, among others. Currently, it’s a well-outfitted stop for a quick recharge before you continue.
