Drive Through Five Miles Of Inspiring Lanterns At Antietam’s Memorial Illumination In Maryland
It’s almost that time of year. While Marylanders will soon be heading all over the state to see Christmas lights, there’s another light display that’s worth seeing in person, and it’s incredibly inspiring. Mark your calendar for Antietam’s Memorial Illumination. It’s a must-see tradition that you may want to return to every year.
You'll find Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland.
This historic battlefield is where the bloodiest one-day battle in American history took place, on September 17, 1862. You can visit year-round to explore the monuments and more.
On December 7, 2019, the annual illumination will take place. 23,000 candles will be lit throughout the grounds in honor of each soldier killed, wounded, or missing during the Battle of Antietam.
Seeing 23,000 candles representing 23,000 brave soldiers is quite inspiring. This breathtaking event is one you'll want to see in person at least once.
