This time of year brings something special to Maine. The weather is chilly, snow is falling and twinkle lights are up on homes throughout the state. The goal of this 501(c)(3) non-profit is "to replicate history"... "through the use of steam locomotives, hand signals, and the methods used by people on the original railroad." Even more impressive is the fact that they are entirely volunteer-run.

In addition to horse-drawn wagon or sleigh rides, visitors can also take part in ornament making and singing on the train.

The train departs no matter the weather, unless conditions are deemed unsafe.

The Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway is located at 97 Cross Rd., Alna, Maine. And, we’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that this event is free! There are 9 throughout the day, the first beginning at 10:30 a.m. and the last departing at 3:10 p.m. The bad news? Right now the event is sold out. But that doesn’t mean you can’t attend. Simply check their ticket website often and see if there have been cancellations. If there are, the site will reflect ticket availability. There’s always a chance. And, you can always visit when they’re open to see the museum, which is well worth it.
