The Stonewood Trail In Maine Offers 2.7-Miles Of Flat Terrain For A Leisurely Adventure
We love getting outside and enjoying a dose of fresh air. But we don’t always love heavy-duty hikes that require a ton of huffing and puffing. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for the trails that offer access to the outdoors without the need to summit a mountain. You might be pleasantly surprised to learn that there are lots of options, including this one!
A lot of people think of shopping when they think of Freeport, but those who love the outdoors know there's so much more to love about this popular Maine town. The next time you're in the area skip the spending and head to the 2.7-mile Stonewood Trail!
In order to experience the best of the area plan on checking out the map at the trailhead. Then, follow the white blazes leading to the large meadow. Once here, take in the peace and quiet before heading back or taking the blue trail as an alternate way to get back.
The elevation gain throughout is about 190 feet which makes this flat and leisurely. It's great for little legs and those just beginning to fall in love with hiking.
Once you've completed the route we have a feeling you'll be making plans for another mind-clearing trip!
The Stonewood Trail can be accessed year-round and is great for both hiking and walking. You can learn more about it and see a map of the route by visiting alltrails.com. And if you have a furry friend you’ll love that dogs are allowed as long as they’re kept on a leash.
Michelle has lived in many places, but counts Maine as one of the best. In addition to the smell of ocean water in the air on rainy days in Portland, she loves puppies, photography, funny people, the Maine Red Claws, traveling, fresh tomatoes, Cambodia and filling out forms.
