Michelle has lived in many places, but counts Maine as one of the best. In addition to the smell of ocean water in the air on rainy days in Portland, she loves puppies, photography, funny people, the Maine Red Claws, traveling, fresh tomatoes, Cambodia and filling out forms. Is there anything more gloriously Maine than jumping into a body of water on a hot afternoon? There’s just one important thing to keep in mind! We love the coastal beaches, but the best thing for a refreshing dunk is a lake, river or swimming hole. We all know that ocean water is prohibitively cold (except, apparently, to the brave folks from away) so enjoying these other options makes for a fun day you can actually enjoy. And this swimming hole near Rangeley is one of our favorites!
Located off of Route 4 near Rangeley, you'll find Smalls Falls. One of the most lovely waterfalls in the area, you can visit by walking just a short distance from the parking area.
Click here for directions from your own location, but the rest area is fairly easily seen from the road. Once you've pulled in there are rest areas, picnic tables and then a clearly marked trail leading over a bridge for a view of the falls.
