The Seaside Christmas Celebration In Maine Has Been Running For Over 30 Years
As Thanksgiving approaches and Christmas grows near, we’ve got our sights set on all the fun things that happen around the state during this time of year. From special train rides to finding that perfect tree, the season is full of wonder and delight. One of the best ways to experience this in Maine is by taking part in one of the most celebratory Christmas events in New England. It’s been going on for nearly 30 years and, by the looks of it, it’ll be going for at least another 30!
One of the best tourist destinations during the summer is also the best place to be during the winter.
The fun starts in Dock Square with the annual tree lighting. The community gathers to hear carolers sing popular Christmas songs and the lights are turned on for a spectacular effect.
Events leading up to the tree lighting begin the weekend after Thanksgiving and include things like a breakfast with Mrs. Claus and the elves at the Nonantum Resort. from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sunday December 2nd.
After docking at David’s KPT on Ocean Avenue, everyone follow Santa and his Lobster Elves through Dock Square to the Community House on Temple Street for photos.
Not only is this one of the oldest Christmas celebrations in the state, but it's also one of the most special. Generations of families have been participating in the event together for nearly three decades. If you're one of those people that like to maximize the celebration for this holiday, this event was made for you!
There are so many individual events that play a role in the Christmas Prelude that we couldn’t possibly list them all here. So, take a look at the official website and start planning your time! Remember to be in Dock Square on Friday, December 7th at 5:30 p.m. for the most magical part of this fun celebration.
If we’re talking about the things that make this state so special, we can’t forget one of the most unique bridges in Maine. It’s been built to account for dramatic tides and erosion. Check it out here!
