Follow The Shoreline On The Beautifully Unexpected Rockland Harboor Trail In Maine
When you think about hiking you might consider images of wooded forests or even streams and rivers. Some of us picture towering peaks with triumphant arms overhead indicating that we’ve just completed a huge feat. This, while wonderful, is not always hiking. In some cases here in Maine a hike can be considered a leisurely stroll through some beautiful surroundings. And those surrounding need not be surrounded by green. This trail, located in one of the state’s larger towns, is just a much a hike as anything else. And it might even be the most beautiful!
Rockland is one of the most picturesque towns in the state. It helps that it's right on the coast and that it's absolutely thrumming with culture and beauty.
And one of our favorite things to do is to explore the 5-mile Rockland Harbor Trail. If 5 miles isn't in the cards you can also choose to just do a portion of the route.
If you're here for the day you'll notice that locals come here to walk their dog, get some thinking in, or just enjoy a coffee in the morning. This community asset reminds people exactly what's so great about being in Maine.
The Rockland Harbor Trail is lovely and can be experienced year-round. You can learn more about it on Maine Trail Finder by clicking here. What other more urban trails have you come to love? Let us know so we can explore them too!
Michelle has lived in many places, but counts Maine as one of the best. In addition to the smell of ocean water in the air on rainy days in Portland, she loves puppies, photography, funny people, the Maine Red Claws, traveling, fresh tomatoes, Cambodia and filling out forms.
