Recently Named One Of The Best Hikes In America, Completing The Precipice Trail In Maine Is A Fabulous Accompishment
Maine is full of fantastic hikes ranging from simple and flat to technical and almost entirely uphill. Each one has its benefits and choosing the perfect trail is no easy feat. Especially when there are so many great options. We always recommend that people try to get as much outdoor time as they can, but the trail we’re featuring today is definitely a challenge. If you’re up for it, you’ll be rewarded with incredible views and a sense of accomplishment that can’t be matched.
Champlain Mountain rises 1,054-feet above Acadia National Park, making it Maine's 6th highest peak.
The 1.4-mile out and back route has a total elevation gain of about 915 feet, which isn't the largest. But this hike is definitely challenging in its technicality.
This might seem easy but add the fact that you can see for miles from this section of the hike and you're facing a whole different situation! Be sure to read all available signage before you head up so you can be sure you're up for the challenge.
And if you are, you'll be rewarded with some of the most incredible views in Acadia National Park. Looking out over the water you'll see the islands dotting the coast, along with trees leading all the way out from the mountain.
This hike is not for those who have a fear of heights, but if you can muster the bravery it will be one of the greatest Maine hiking accomplishments you can have!
The Precipice Trail is considered a technical hike and should only be attempted by those with ample hiking experience. If you choose to do it, be sure to let friends and family know where you’ll be and when you expect to be back. Avoid hiking the trail in inclement weather.
