When it comes to the best scenic drives in Maine, the Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway shouldn’t be missed. As you follow the byway through the mountains of western Maine, you’ll be afforded incredible views of wooded forests, farm fields, pristine streams, and a chain of lakes and ponds. There are several points of interest along the route, including Coos Canyon, Small Falls, and Height of Land Scenic Overlook, which means you’ll have plenty of chances to take a detour and explore.

What are some other beautiful places in Maine?

There seems to be no shortage of beautiful places in Maine, and Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley is one of them. Offering opportunities for fun throughout the seasons, Maine’s third highest mountain is a popular spot among thrill-seekers. In the winter, skiers swarm Sugarloaf Mountain to enjoy everything from traditional downhill skiing to backcountry skiing. During the warmer months, visitors can enjoy hiking, kayaking, zip-lining, and even Segway tours.

Are there any scenic overlooks in Maine?

When searching for must-visit scenic overlooks in Maine, don’t overlook Mount Battie in Camden Hills State Park. From the summit of the 800-foot seaside peak, you’ll be afforded sweeping vistas of Penobscot Bay, Camden Harbor, and Camden Hills. When it comes to reaching the summit, there are a couple of options. You can hike to the top, which typically takes about two hours. Or, you can drive to the mountain’s summit. Keep in mind, though, that the road to Mount Battie may close between November 1st and May 1st, depending on weather and staffing.
