The Natural Swimming Hole In Maine That Will Take You Back To The Good Ole Days
The days of summer in Maine are here! There’s nothing like ’em…as long as the weather cooperates. Lucky for us, we’ve had a string of hot days, which has us dreaming up ways to get outside and stay there. There are plenty of beaches where we can soak up that northern sun, but sometimes it feels like everyone in Vacationland has that same idea. Instead of dealing with parking and lugging an umbrella out onto the sand, check out this wonderful swimming hole. Spending just a few hours here will remind you of your childhood summers – long days, cool nights and lots of scrambling to get home before dark and the wrath of grownups came down!
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate
The Smalls Falls swimming hole can be found on the Sandy River, in the Rangeley Lakes Area.
If climbing to the top of the falls and plunging face first into the cold water isn't your idea of fun, there are plenty of easier ways to enter the water for swimming.
Simply sit at the side and dip your toes in little by little.
Each of these is separated from the other by a small pool, which are all are great for swimming. The smaller pools are great for kids - there are lots of very shallow areas for mini-Mainers to build their courage.
