Circle Monhegan Island On This 4.4-Mile Loop Trail With Incredible Views

Located in Lincoln Country off the coast of the Bristol and Boothbay Harbor area, Monhegan Island offers a small community on a small island with the most quintessentially Maine craggy coast.

The hike is under 5 miles and circles the entire island which means you'll have a full view of the surrounding area.

And no matter the weather that area is simply gorgeous! It's not uncommon for fog to roll in which adds to the Maine feel.

The trail is considered to be of moderate difficulty, but that's mainly due to some rocky areas and a slight elevation of about 550 feet.

We also love that this hike has just about everything. There are lush forests, open meadows, views of town, and the beautiful ocean.

The trail should take anywhere from 3 to 4 hours depending on how many times you choose to stop and take in your surroundings.

The trails are well-maintained making the hike easy to follow.

And there's quite a bit to see along the way!

If you take the ferry and manage to complete the hike in just the right amount of time you'll even have some wiggle room to head to the local brewery for a pint before getting on the next ferry back to the mainland!

The Monhegan Island Cliff Trail is accessible year-round, but it’s considered best from March through October. Each season offers something new so you’ll want to check it out a few times throughout the year if you can. Have a dog you love to have adventures with?
