Spend A Magical Afternoon At York’s Wild Kingdom, Home Of Maine’s Largest Butterfly House

Taking a day trip to a fun attraction in Maine is one of the best parts of living here or visiting for an extended period of time. Everyday life is great in New England, but getting in the car and making our way to a place where we can learn and have fun is something extra-special. If you can get to southern Maine easily, we recommend a visit to York Animal Kingdom’s butterfly exhibit. As far as we know it’s the only one of its type in the state!

We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

York Animal Kingdom typically opens close to the end of May and stays open through the fall. Hours vary during the season, but they’re primarily open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. In June and September, only the zoo is open on weekdays and the amusement opens for the weekends. In July and August, both the zoo and the amusement park are open every day. Be sure to check their website for more information and precise hours. You can also follow them on Facebook. They can be reached on 207-363-4911.

If you love these beautiful creatures as much as us, you should check out the butterfly garden in Maine that’s the perfect family destination.
