When it comes to mountains in Maine, we’re usually telling you how to find them, hike them and generally just enjoy them. Today, things are different. Today, we want to remind you that the highest paved route in Maine is actually best when driven! You can certainly make your way to the summit using your own two feet, but for an unforgettable journey we suggest you hop in your car.

Acadia's tallest peak, found in Acadia National Park, is also the tallest on the Atlantic Coastline.

In fact, Cadillac Mountain is the tallest peak on the east coast, North of Rio de Janeiro.
And, it's the highest driveable road in the state, making for a fun and adventurous trip that's also fairly easy.

To begin the drive, head West on 233 from Bar Harbor.
Once you enter the park, turn left onto Park Loop Road to follow the signs for Cadillac Mountain Road.

Here you'll begin the approximately 3-ish mile drive up the curvy road to the top!

While the destination is gorgeous, the views along the Park Loop Road heading upwards are worth the drive alone!

The best part? Cadillac Mountain is the first place in the US to see the sunrise between October and March. Perfect timing!

The road to reach Cadillac Mountain is open will close in early December. It re-opens in mid-April. Entry into Acadia National Park is $10 from October 1st through October 31st and from May 1st through June 22nd. It’s $20 during the peak season beginning the end of June through late September.
