Get Cozy With A Weekend Getaway In This Charming Tiny House In Maine
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Of all the ways to enjoy some time in Maine, getting closer to nature is one of our favorites. But you can do that without having to hit the trails or even set up a tent! Instead, consider spending a few nights in an unconventional home right on the banks of a river! This tiny house is off-the-grid, but still offers all the comforts you need for a cozy little stay in the woods. Plus, it’s within minutes of stores and restaurants!
Welcome to your own little slice of paradise in the middle of the Maine woods!
The Crooked River Tiny House can be found by making your way down a dirt road. You'll know you've arrived when you see the fun sign tacked to a tree indicating that the house is just ahead. While you're on these 3.5 acres, things will feel remote. But just a few miles from the house you'll find a general store. And a few miles in the other direction is Norway. That makes this a great spot for folks who want to try some off-the-grid living, but still want creature comforts close by.
The 200-square foot cabin has a kitchen, sitting area, and a loft bedroom. The kitchen has everything you'll need to make your visit comfortable, including pots, pans, utensils and even a French press. You'll also find some staple grains and mixes for things like dinner sides and pancakes.
We love the little table with reclaimed chairs perfect for enjoying a meal, playing one of the many games in the house or just looking out onto the bird feeders.
Don't worry about bringing your own woods. There's plenty here. And if you've never built a fire in a wood stove there are super clear instructions along with newspaper and fat wood to get you started.
In the summer, you'll want to spend some time in the adjacent screen room which has a sign indicating that its name is "Screen-Grila." This is a great place for card games and long chats.
The Crooked River Tiny House is a fun little getaway for those on their own, couples and families. And it's just an hour and 15 minutes from Portland, making it accessible for those visiting from places like New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
The Crooked River Tiny House is about $100 per night and can be booked through airbnb.com. It was recently featured in Maine Magazine. The home has solar power which allows for light at night. The solar battery also allows for charging phones and computers. You’ll even find an entire hard drive full of movies! It also has a compost toilet and you might be surprised at just how lovely it smells.
We love that animals are allowed, too. They once even hosted a mini-pig! This is also a great place to celebrate something special. The owner has set up engagements and even Christmases here!
One of the things we love best about visiting this tiny house is the location! It’s just a few minutes from one of our favorite small towns in Maine. Norway is a charming Maine town that deserves a visit! Especially if you love breweries, pubs, and fun independent shops.
