Maine’s Only Certified Haunted Inn Is Waiting For You To Check In – If You Dare
Maine has some serious history. From civil war tales to shipping stories, a state with such a long history is bound to have some spooky tales to share. That’s why we weren’t entirely surprised to learn that Maine actually has its very own “certified” haunted inn! If you take your hauntings seriously, this is the place you’ll want to visit. You’re almost assured to be spooked!
The Chapman Inn Bed & Breakfast is located in one of the most convenient areas of Bethel. In fact, it's a great place to stay if you want easy foot access to local attractions.
It also happens to be so haunted that a paranormal specialist was brought in to investigate things like cold drafts in the summer, female voices coming from unoccupied rooms and even a black cat scurrying through solid walls!
The history of the home provides some clues as to why it's haunted today. It was owned by William Chapman who had a very sick daughter who died at the age of 16.
Prior to her death, he hired a caregiver for her and the two became close friends. Upon Abigail's death, the caregiver stayed on in the home. When William passed on, he left a large fortune to his wife and children but he left the home and money to run it to the caregiver for as long as she chose to stay.
The caregiver stayed here until her death in 1957. And, given their close relationship, it's not surprising that Abigail would have stayed on this side to be near her caregiver.
But others will certainly feel their kind presence.
You can learn more about The Chapman Inn on their website. You can reach them on 207-824-2657. Visit them at their address: 2 Church Street, Bethel, ME 04217.
