It’s easy to live in a place, but it’s something else entirely to call it home. Calling Maine home means loving both our coast and our forests, our winters along with our summers. We might call Maine home, but there are a few things that, undeniably, make it feel that way. Here are 15 things that we just can’t live without in Vacationland.
Everyone knows about our lobster shacks, but let's not forget how much we love our unexpected general stores, sandwich shops, BBQ joints and bakeries. Don't limit your food options in Maine - take a drive through the back roads to discover something new. This is Spring Creek BBQ in Monson.

Known in some circles as Maine's "official" treat, whoopie pies make just about any bad day better.
We need that fresh air, those boots and those active moments. It makes us feel alive and reminds us why we're so lucky to be in Maine.
We might complain about snow occasionally, but this year when it took ages to have some actual snowfall we complained about that too. So, let's just admit how much we love our cozy, snowy winters and all the things we can do with that snow.
Without them, we wouldn't have ice thick enough to let us go smelting. Even if it's not your "thing" it's nice to know that you can tag along every now and then for a good time.

So, maybe we can't consider it "amazing," but it's definitely a part of life we pretty much have to accept in Maine.
This one goes without saying. Whether it's whole or in a roll, we can't live without our favorite shellfish.
Heading upta camp is what gets us through long work weeks.
They make up the true fabric of our state.
From potatoes to the underground railroad, our history has molded us and, for that, we'll always be grateful.
