When people refer to their own small towns, I often wonder if they really understand what it’s like to live in one. In Maine, it means making lifelong friends, keeping family close and always knowing that you’ll have a place to eat dinner. It means warm sunsets shared with neighbors and it means knowing you always have someone to give their support when you need it most. Small town Maine is unlike any other place. It is no wonder that some of the best people call a small town their home. Here are just a few of the reasons we love our small town friends and family.

1. They know where to find anything.

Need a red dog? Want a coffee? Have a hankering for a lobster roll? Small town Mainers know exactly where to find it all - usually in one place.
2. They know how to nourish a family.

Maine is home many rural farms, which means the Mainers who live here contribute to the agriculture that helps feed our country.

4. They will always be there to help.

In a small town you take the time to get to know your neighbors. So, when one is struggling, you're there to help. They're family and you treat them as such.
5. They aren't in a hurry to change what works.

In a world where everyone seems to feel that nothing is good enough, it's nice to know that in some places people appreciate what's around them. There's no need to improve on things that don't need improving. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

7. They have strong roots.

With the founding of many small towns in Maine dating back to the 1600s, roots have grown deep. If you come to small town Maine, you will be surrounded by a community of people who understand the importance of their history.

When you live in a small town, there's a good chance you know the family that owns the local shop on Main Street. You support them and go out of your way to shop local. Community is everything.

Living in small-town Maine could mean living in a rural area. When you grow up off the beaten path, you learn that some of the best adventures can happen when you least expect them. Small town Mainers will take a left when others might take a right. And they enjoy the time it takes with a patience not seen in the city.

This may have been a daily view, but there wasn't a single day that it wasn't appreciated. Growing up in a small town meant access to lakes, trails and forests that felt like all yours.
