This holiday season is officially upon us! We’ll soon be featuring all the best holiday lighting events around the state so you can plan out your weekends. This particular light show just lit up for the season, and it’s one of the best in the country, so be sure to go see it and fill up on holiday cheer.

The Natchitoches Christmas Festival is one of the oldest holiday celebrations in the country.

They’ve been putting on this celebration since 1927, although when it first began it was just a one-day festival.

The celebration runs for six weeks and begins on the Saturday before Thanksgiving running up until January 6th.

More than 300,00 lights and more than 100 set pieces light up the Cane River Lake every night during the festival.

The entire downtown area is lit up as well, and there are several activities for both kids and adults.

You can take a carriage tour through the historic district and enjoy one of the many food vendors that come out along the riverbank.

In 2013, they were ranked 3rd best holiday light show — behind the Rockefeller Center and Disney World!

The lights will be on display every evening until January 6th.

And there’s a big fireworks display on Saturday evenings, so if you can time your visit, you’ll see a spectacular fireworks show while you're there.
