Anyone who’s spent a summer in the South knows that the season often brings with it extreme weather. Sometimes it’s scorching temperatures and other times, like this week in Louisiana, it manifests in a chaotic tropical storm. The recently-formed storm Cindy promises plenty of rain and could even account for flooding along Louisiana’s coast. Here’s more on this weather system:

As of Tuesday afternoon, a tropical storm has formed in the Gulf Of Mexico, causing cities such as Houston, Shreveport, New Orleans, Destin, and Tampa to be on high-alert for extreme weather conditions.

According to meteorologists, Tropical Storm Cindy is not expected to develop into a full-fledged hurricane, although there will certainly be high winds and heavy rainfall.

While the storm's expected trajectory appears to move through the center of Louisiana, experts agree that most of the high winds and rain will effect the coastal areas east of the red line.

Heavy rain along the Gulf Coast could result in extreme flooding later in the week. Some areas of southern Louisiana may experience up to three inches of rain per hour.
