Sure, we all know New Orleans is called the Big Easy, but did you know that there are several small cities and towns in Louisiana that have unique nicknames? Listed below are some of the lesser known nicknames of our favorite Louisiana towns and a little backstory of how they earned their nicknames.
Breaux Bridge and crawfish have a long history together. Restaurants in Breaux Bridge were the first to offer crawfish on their menus, which eventually lead to the invention of one of the best Cajun dishes ever made—crawfish etouffee. Louisiana legislature officially designated Breaux Bridge as the Crawfish Capital of the World in 1959.
Des Allemands got its nickname due to its location along the Bayou Des Allemands. Visitors from all over flock to Des Allemands every June to enjoy the Louisiana Catfish Festival.

This tiny little town earned itself this nickname due to the numerous dogtrot style houses in the area.
