Lea’s Lunchroom In Louisiana Became A Local Legend By Perfecting Just One Food Item

Nestled within this town of fewer than 2,000 people is a local landmark that’s worthy of a pilgrimage, and it earned this charming town the nickname of the "Pie Capital of Louisiana."
Lea Johnson opened up the roadside diner in 1928, having no clue that it would one day become such a local landmark. Tired of the long hours of working as a mechanic, Mr. Johnson traded a car for five stools, two countertops, a stove, and a coffee pot. Shortly after, he hired Georgie, whom he would later marry.
The menu remains fairly simple to this day. You’ll still find their famous ham sandwich and daily specials on rotation with homemade side dishes.
The pies use a family recipe from Georgie’s mother, and the original recipes are still used today.
They also have six seasonal flavors that are rotated into the mix throughout the year.
