Louisiana is filled with endless outdoor attractions just waiting for you to explore. Sometimes, the most interesting ones are slightly off the beaten path, but still worth the drive! So gas up the car and grab some snacks, because these amazing outdoor adventures are calling your name.

If you’ve never been to Barataria Preserve, you’re in for a real treat. The boardwalk trails allow you to catch a glimpse of the preserve’s 23,000 acres of swamps, marshes, and bayous. Known for its excellent wildlife viewing, the area is home to scores of alligators, turtles, snakes, birds, and more.

Tucked away in the Kisatchie National Forest, Briarwood was the home to Caroline Dormon, a world renown botanist, author, and the first woman ever hired to be in the United States Forest Service. Open from March-May, August and November, this is one hidden gem worth the drive.

Located between Grand Isle and Cameron, Louisiana, this delightful state park is one of the few locations near the Gulf of Mexico that can be reached by car. From the half-mile stretch of man-made beach to the amazing fishing opportunities, you’ll have an amazing time at Cypremort Point State Park. Be sure to stick around for the sunsets over Vermillion Bay will simply dazzle you.

Cajun X Cables is Louisiana’s first and only full-size cable wake park and is great fun for all ages. Bring your own gear or rent from them, take a lesson, and you’ll be surfing the waves like a pro.

Featuring more than 30 species of animals, you’ll be able to come up close and personal with exotic animals like zebras, water buffalo, and more on your incredible safari ride through the park. You can either drive through the park in your own vehicle or take advantage of one of their guided tours for a truly memorable experience the whole family will love.

Head on down to the tip of the boot for some amazing outdoor adventures. Featuring world-class fishing opportunities, peaceful beaches, and amazing bird watching opportunities, Grand Isle is a nature lover’s paradise.

For the outdoor enthusiasts, there’s no better trail than the Backbone Trail, located near Provencal, Louisiana. The trail is just shy of 10 miles and offers some truly spectacular scenery.

Located just west of Shreveport close to the Texas border, Gators & Friends is an exotic petting zoo and alligator park that the whole family will love. Thrill seekers will absolutely love the zipline course, which takes about 45 minutes to complete and will send you soaring through the trees and over the park, including soaring over a live alligator pond.
