There’s no denying that Louisiana is the best state to live in, but depending on where you live, Louisiana could look vastly different. From the food to the landscape, Louisiana changes quite a bit as you make your way further north or south. We may be one big family, but here are six undeniable differences between the northern and southern parts of Louisiana.

Sure, the southern parts of Louisiana do see the occasional snowfall, but it’s far more common in the northern half of the state to wake up to a winter wonderland.

Rolling hills in the north, swamps and bayous in the south. The terrain starts to shift in the middle of the state, and if you’ve ever taken a hike through the Kisatchie National Forest, you’ll be shocked at the hilly terrain.

The southern half of the state is where you’ll find the food that Louisiana is known for. Cajun and Creole cuisine has its roots deep in the southern part of the state, but that’s not to say you can’t get a delicious po’boy or a hearty bowl of gumbo in the northern half.

We’ve covered snowfall, but then there are hurricanes. The southern half of the state has to deal with the stress of hurricane season and the always-looming threat that you could have to evacuate.

The northern half of the state wins this round, since they actually get to experience the changing seasons and have beautiful fall foliage, whereas the southern half might be lucky if fall lasts for longer than a week.

While both the northern and southern parts of the state are sports fans, their allegiances may differ. You’ll find many more Cowboy fans in the north than you will in the south, which is and always will be, Saints nation. Who dat!
