New Orleans has a special way of getting into your heart. There’s just something about this city that makes you fall in love with it, and today we’re highlighting all the weird, wacky, and wonderful reason to love New Orleans.
1. The Food
People travel from all over the world to get a taste of our unique cuisine, and we have the luxury of having all of these incredible restaurants in our own backyard. From muffulettas to BBQ shrimp, no one does food like New Orleans.
2. The Architecture
From the Spanish influences in the French Quarter to the Greek Revival mansions in the Garden District, New Orleans has some of the most unique architecture in the country.
3. The Music
New Orleans and music go together like peas and carrots. From brass bands to jazz, we have some of the most talented musicians in the country and you can find them playing on the street corners or just about any bar you walk into. From Louis Armstrong to Fats Domino, New Orleans is just one of those cities that embraces music.
4. The History
Just about every building you walk into in New Orleans has a unique history. New Orleanians embrace our history, spending time restoring buildings rather than tearing them down to build the next new fancy thing. We love the charm and rustic vibes of stepping onto a creaking wooden floor that’s over a hundred years old, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
5. The Character
From the people to the houses, New Orleans has character like none other.
6. The Ghosts
With any city as old as New Orleans, you’re bound to have a few lingering spirits. Ghost stories have been swirling around New Orleans for centuries, and there are dozens of ghost tours that would love to tell you more about them. Who knows, you might even have a paranormal encounter of your own!

Not many cities would put their cemeteries on their reasons to love their city, but New Orleans cemeteries are special. These hauntingly beautiful cities of the dead are one of a kind and something you’ll only find in New Orleans.

Sure, we have amazing architecture, delicious food, and maybe a wandering spirit or two, but the real reason to love New Orleans is the people. The people are what makes the city shine, and it’s the best reason to move here.
9. The Art
New Orleans is a city filled with creatives. From comedy to art galleries, the city just embraces the artist. Notable writers like Mark Twain and Anne Rice have been inspired by this unique city, Michalopolous paintings are commonly found in households and restaurants around New Orleans, and it’s pretty common to find beautiful murals around every corner.
10. Our Laws
Want to take that drink outside? No problem. New Orleans is one of those rare places where it’s ok to drink on the street, and it’s just one more reason to love the Crescent City.
11. The Spirit
New Orleans has a spirit that’s all its own. We’re resilient. We rally around each other. We parade in the streets and support each other. From our football team to our festivals, the city just has a unique pulse that’s unparalleled by any other city in the world.
