There’s no two ways about it: New Orleans is an amazing city to walk around in. With no elevation to speak of and plenty of streets lined in some of the most beautiful architecture in the United States, it’s difficult to go wrong when you take a walk here. These are some of the best streets to check out as you are walking around.
Oak Street is one of the streets that has gone through the biggest transformation since Katrina. So many new restaurants plus historic places like the Maple Leaf Bar and the nearby Mississippi River makes this street very special. Plus, you'll love the annual Po-Boy Festival held here.
One of the longest stretches of primarily locally-owned business in the entire country, you can walk this street for miles and not come upon a national chain. So much of New Orleans unique small business culture call this street home. And all throughout the year there are fabulous events celebrating what makes this street so special.

Freret Street is another corridor that has been completely revitalized since Katrina. It's hard not to fall in love with the charm of all the new restaurants and shops here. And the monthly crafts market really makes for a special experience.

This is one of my favorite strolls in the city. Start where Camp Street meets Coliseum Square park and follow it down through the Lower Garden District and into the CBD. Passing underneath the interstate isn't the finest part of the walk, but everything else is so pleasant you'll hardly notice.
Hands down, this is the most beautiful street in New Orleans to me. Now that they have installed bike paths through the entire length, that may truly be the best way to explore. But even just taking a run from the base of the Mississippi River all the way up to City Park will put you in touch with so many beautiful sights and sounds.
There's nothing that says New Orleans like walking down St. Charles Ave. There you'll get a glimpse of some of the largest and most grand mansions in New Orleans. Don't forget to stop by Audubon Park as you stroll.
Truly, any street in the French Quarter is magical to walk down, but Royal St. is my favorite. Home to all of the amazing art galleries and antique shops that make New Orleans so special, I always discover something beautiful when I visit here.
